Costa Rica’s surf ranges from the gentle waves of beaches whose sands extend for hundreds of yards before there is any great depth to roaring breakers with heights of 6 feet and more. Costa Rica is a surfer’s paradise - a great place to learn or to challenge yourself, and is the site of many international surf championships. Surfers often gather in locales such a Jaco Beach to catch the first waves and then in the evening to surf against a firey sunset. There are numerous surf shops and cafes along the roads abutting the beaches. For a challenge, have a go at surf frisbee - catching a frisbee while you are standing on your surf board.
